From 15th May 2023, St Gabriel’s Medical Centre will no longer accept orders or requests for your repeat medication from community and online pharmacies.
Why is this changing?
We recognise that the best person to order their medication is you, the patient. You know how much you have at home, which medicines you take regularly, which may have been recently stopped following a hospital or doctor appointment and so you will know which ones need ordering each time. We anticipate that by putting you, the patient, in charge of their own medication we will also help:
- reduce waste medication
- streamline the ordering process
- reduce time spent chasing missing prescriptions
- have more resource to focus on supporting our most vulnerable patients to order
- reduce the pressure on our local community pharmacies
How can I order my medication?
You will be able to choose from either of the below three options:
- Via an app that links in with our GP clinical system (EMIS) such as the NHS app, Patient Access or myGP. Our reception team are available to help you register for one of the apps (you will need a linkage key emailed to you from us).
- In person using the post box in our reception area. You must print and sign your name on the request and date it before putting it into the post box.
- By posting your repeat prescription request, via Royal Mail to the surgery (address above). You must print and sign your name on the request and also date it before posting it to us.
When will my prescription be ready?
Please remember that we require 2 working days (48 hours) to process your prescription. This gives us time to have it checked and approved for issuing by a doctor or practice pharmacist. In addition to out 2 working days, your nominated pharmacy may need up to 3 working days (72 hours) to get your prescription ready for collection. This includes their clinical check and allows time to order in any items not in stock. With this in mind you should order your medicines when you have approximately a 7-day supply left and you should allow 5 working days before expecting your prescription to be ready for collection or delivery.
What if I am unable to use any of the 3 methods above to order my medication?
We understand that for a small number of our patients, none of the three ordering methods above will be suitable. This will typically include our very vulnerable patients such as those with advanced dementia and those who are housebound, and we are happy to make alternative arrangements in these instances.
If you believe that you cannot order your medication using any of the options listed in this letter, then please contact the surgery reception team to discuss.
